Test driving the 2017 Toyota Prius Prime Advanced

We’re taking a look at the 2017 Prius Prime Advanced Edition. At first we were just going to do a review (Toyota provided us with one to drive for a week to review), but after I started researching this, I just fell in love with it and we wound up trading in our Jeep Cherokee for a beautiful red Prius Prime with white interior! So for the next week, we’ll have two to check out. And we’re keeping one! We’re working on a full review to be coming your way soon, but for now we’re taking you on a drive around the neighborhood to give you a feel for what it’s like.

Quick Specs

Range (electric and gas): 640 miles on 1 tank of gas
Range (electric only): 25 miles
MPGe (electric mode): 133
MPG hybrid mode (city/highway/combined): 55/53/54
Charging time: 5 hours 30 minutes from standard outlet; 2 hours 10 minutes from charging station

Can you comment on storage room and on sitting in the back seat. I have a ‘traditional’ Prius and there is not much trunk room (luggage for a long road trip). Also, I heard they gave up the middle back seat for more space for the battery – is it comfortable in the back seat?

So far, I find it very comfy in the back seat with lots of legroom. We just left to go on a trip as well, and all our bags etc fit very nicely in the cargo area, plus we laid the seats down so we could have Abbey (our chihuahua) back there. And really, the loss of the middle seat is a bonus in my opinion, because you can have two people back there comfortably rather than trying to jam 3 in. Someone can still sit there, but it would be cramped…so when there are 5 people…guess someone else has to drive grin

I like the styling! They look a lot better than the older Prius.

I agree Jason! I would never have bought it had it looked like the old ones. I just never liked them. I liked the idea of them for the gas savings, but just could not get myself to take the leap.
